SABA-SD Condemns Attack on the Islamic Center of San Diego

The South Asian Bar Association of San Diego (SABA-SD) is devastated and outraged by today’s violent attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego — the largest mosque in San Diego County — which claimed the lives of three community members, including a security guard who died protecting those in his care.

This attack occurred at a place of worship while a K–12 school was in session. We commend the brave security personnel, law enforcement, and first responders who acted swiftly to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and worshippers, and we support the ongoing investigation into this attack as a hate crime.

As an organization committed to justice and the protection of marginalized communities, SABA-SD stands in unwavering solidarity with San Diego’s Muslim community. Every person, regardless of faith or background, has the right to worship and exist in safety. We call on elected officials and law enforcement to take immediate action to protect communities of faith from hate-motivated violence.

Our hearts go out to the families of the victims and the congregation of the Islamic Center of San Diego. We stand with you.
