On June 21, 2021, the City posted the draft Ordinance for the Commission on Police Practices. The draft Ordinance turns the Commission into an ineffective review board like the former model, and it undermines the nearly 75% of San Diego voters who approved Measure B to have an independent police review commission.

Despite calls to postpone the meeting, the City Council moved forward on a vote to approve the draft Ordinance on June 24, 2021 at 9am. SABA-SD President Tarina Mand spoke at the City Council Committee meeting to urge Councilmembers to adopt the Voters’ Ordinance, and let them know that SABA-SD will fight for a Commission on Police Practices that is true to Measure B and meets the community’s needs & expectations.
